01-03-18 If Only is a 1 year old cross breed who has come to us from truly appalling conditions in Romania. She has witnessed and experienced things no dog should see and she was saved by a Romanian rescue who have very little funds. Thanks to our wonderful supporters we were able to offer help to 10 of these dogs and so now If Only is here to find a home probably for the first time in her life.

If Only  has lost all hope in life, she doesnt have a clue what her future holds. She will need time and patience as she is confused and extremely scared. If Only doesnt walk on a lead, she has had a trauma on the top of her left toe that has healed. She needs experienced owners with all the patience in the world. If only does have her own passport and she really needs a Get Out Of Jail Free card to go with it so she can start her life afresh surrounded with kindness and love.

20-03-18 UPDATE
If Only is a very beautiful but very scared little soul. I went into her kennel to meet her for the first time today and she was visibly uncomfortable having me in there with her and tried to hide in the back away from me. I closed the back of the kennel so she’d have to be in the front with me and then ignored her whilst I sat and made a fuss of the other dogs in there and gave them some treats. If Only couldn’t relax with me in there and paced nervously around the kennel staying away from me. It took 10 minutes before she’d come close enough to sniff me and 5 more minutes until she was calm enough to stop pacing and sit down in the corner away from me.
Any sudden moves or loud noises on my part made her jump and set her back to pacing. I tried throwing treats to her but the movements startled her and she wouldn’t eat them although with the staff who work with her daily she will accept treats.
If Only is perfectly happy with the other dogs in her kennel, she runs in and out of the kennel to the play yard with them happily, and was obviously much happier once I left the kennel and she was back with just dogs again. She is definitely going to need an experienced home with other dogs to make her feel more confident and people who have endless patience and love to give. It’s going to take some time for this little girl to trust people and longer agin before she comes out of her shell entirely.

If only who I nick name Lowri is a beautiful girl who is ever so scared! She came from a bad place and she just can’t forgive any human for what she’s been through. It’s taken me quite a while to teach Lowri on how to walk on a lead but slowly we are starting to get somewhere. She will accept a fuss from myself and is also fine to be picked up. She will need a resident dog in her new home to show her that home life isn’t that bad. She is looking for an experienced home with someone who has had a scared dog before.

07-072018 UPDATE

If only IF ONLY had been born into a loving home , shown love, kindness and gentle hands she would of been someone's prized beautiful girl - admired by man but alas that didn't happen. This beautiful girl is terrified someone is going to hurt her and it breaks our hearts every single day.
We saw IF ONLY (we call her Lowri) in kennels and knew she needed a chance to start her journey to being a happy confident girl not one who is terrified of being hurt so we took her and her journey has now begun!
We as her fosterers and the MT staff did not know what to expect when she would be in close proximity with humans day in day out but she was wonderful. She was clean from day one and quiet in the house , she LOVES to nap too and is easy to have around in the house . She is wonderful with other dogs and our two cats. She does like to play with other dogs from a tiny shih tzu to a collie to a husky! She also loves her toys which she throws in the air while galloping down the garden!
If Only did not let anyone apart from one or two of the MT kennel staff touch her but after a few days we managed to win her around (just!).She will let you stroke her rub her belly whilst lying down but will still run away if you walk up to her and really does not want you trying to go up to her while she's loose in the garden. This will all take time and it undoubtedly will be in HER time!
These don't sound like much but believe me they are. She proved how clever she is too and how she adapts her fear to make things easier. She was crated one night, then a second but on the third night she walked in herself and sat down while we were getting ready for bed! She is a clever girl who is sweet and gentle just frightened at the moment - very frightened.
She will lift her back leg for you to rub her belly when you ask her too, she's a clever girl as I said before . We knew she had started lead training at MT and hated it, thrashing around at first then unhappy if you looked at her whilst walking around the sand school. She used the edges as her barrier from fear -
so sad to see but we took her anyway, promising we would do everything we could for her. Well we put a harness on and double leaded her and took her around our garden and she way more calm! HOWEVER there is a long long way to go yet before she settles on a lead but we have started and that's the main thing.
Below are a few things IF ONLY needs from a home:

  • A location which is quiet (not a city for definate)
  • A child free home as the noise and quick movements would terrify her sadly
  • An experienced home who have had very very nervous, frightened dogs before is a must
  • A home where there is at least one other dog for company and security
  • A home where there are not lots of visitors coming and going day in day out, or lots going on
  • A home where the person is home the majority of the time - not easy we know but she needs it:
  • And last but not least - A person who is COMMITTED to change this dogs life from terror to calm and to relax and be a normal dog to which she SO deserves.

There is only one this left to say - this girl is a beautiful, sweet and gentle dog who is on a journey. If you have the home/set up, time and experience - then apply to join this SPECTACULAR dog on and join her on it.

"If Only" (we call her Lowri ) is loving life for sure.  Has she come on in confidence ? The answer is yes BUT - that does not mean this dog is not still very very - nervous . There is no magic wand to wave over dogs that have been through a hellish time and this dog was only young when she experienced complete terror from her time in Romania whether that was from being in a Romanian camp or from the humans there or both - whatever the reason it had a traumatic effect.  That has never come through as a dislike of humans - just fear.  She has never so much as growled at us whatever we have asked of her and that is a testament to her loving nature which she shows to us by staring into our eyes when we slowly and gently sit beside her on her sofa and stroke her.
It has taken months to get to the point of this without her leaping off it in terror of you approaching.  We can walk up to her most of the time when she is on the floor walking around, but sometimes she walks or trots off or runs, she seems to have brave days then scared days.
There is a great amount of time that has already been spent with and on Lowri already, and it will be a continuous thing  so anyone wanting to adopt her will have to be committed and have the experience , and time to spend with her.  They will need another dog or more to live with her and will need to be around a lot.  Working from home or retired would be ideal and you would need to be fit and active too as she can bolt when frightened and you need to be able to hold on to her.
This all sounds hard work I know but if you have the experience and time for Lowri what you get back from her will be magical.  The wag of her tail at me, her allowing me to stroke her and the other day she came up beside me and shoved her nose in to my jacket pocket and took out a dog treat which was not for her!! I smiled the whole time she was doing it not looking at her, pretending I never knew so as not to spook her.  I couldn't believe she felt brave enough to do it - she so she deserved her treat, stolen or not !
This beautiful (well stunning actually) girl sleeps all night quietly in her large crate and is completely clean in the house.  She has been since she first came here.  Lowri loves all dogs big or small and will play with them.  She is quite fast and although she plays with a small shih tzu here she also with a large collie and a husky and a large dog would keep up with her easier! She lives beautifully with two cats too. Lowri is a lovely dog but just needs someone with lots of time and experience to continue showing her life is good - with the right humans! Is that you?

28-12-18 UPDATE

Beautiful girl,  If Only  is as sweet a soul, as ever. Whilst she let's us do little things a little less dramatically now   - ( like we can now pick her feet up to dry them after being out in the mud ! ) it's taken many many months of being around and with her  virtually 24/7 ! to achieve this.
She still runs across the room when frightened sometimes, and may always be scared of things but she is only young so with a home life and environment that is consistently the same, quiet and stress free then she could improve,  but she will always be quirky for sure !
We do believe there is a home out there for her but-  they need to be the kind of  people who realise she may always be a sensitive type and she some days is a lot braver than others for some reason . On the plus side she is 100% clean in the house and sleeps in her crate quietly all night ( she does sometimes chew her blankets overnight and has tried to now and then in the day but lately a little less and not every day )
We do not crate her at any other time other  than overnight ,as she would not cope with that at all .
You would need to confine her if you went out and she was left without any humans there, but this could not be for long periods of time as she would totally hate and stress if she were crated in the day for a fairly long length of time, but you would  need to crate her unfortunately - as she can chew things sometimes just like a puppy, she does not chew things a lot to be fair,  but would if she was stressed and left alone for sure.
So you will need to think about this before applying , as for here -  there is always someone in if one person goes out,  so we have not had to crate her in the day .
She still has to have another friendly and preferably playful dog companion or several to live with. She lives with more than one dog here and two cats and loves them,  but no children not even visiting ones, she would not cope with children at all. She loves playing with other dogs but they need to be able to keep up with her as she's young, fast and fit,  and likes to play full on never nasty-  but a bit much for oldies or small dogs!
You need to be committed to be around a lot and have a kind and gentle manner with patience to help her when she needs- it but to read her to when she's ready for that or needs more time - no matter what that may be you are wanting her to do-  or not !
If Only is a lovely girl beautiful looking  quite obviously, her gorgeous colour grey and markings  but her soul is gentle and sweet too and she deserves the best of homes she really really - does . If that's you we are waiting to hear from you !

06-02-19 UPDATE

It's been many months this beautiful girl has been with us in foster and as previously said she has changed into a different dog than when she arrived.  However, she still holds onto fear from her past - by being extremely nervous of sudden movements if near her or if a loud noise is made. Of course it could be she will always be this way and will be content in a quiet lifestyle even in the future rather than be a social butterfly!
She is such a beautiful girl and a sweet soul, but needs a frightened dog experienced home for sure and that won't change in this particular dog.  Having said that for the right home and adopters she could achieve more I'm sure - to find some inner peace and to be able to relax properly and not be forever frightened of things.  We pray that happens for her as there isn't a dog more deserving of that than our girl

27-04-19 UPDATE
This beautiful soul is still with us heading rapidly to a year , we stop sometimes and sit and chat on how she was when she first came here and how she is now, there has been a lot of changes yes but - if you compare her to how most dogs react to things day to day, she is still way way more reactive.
She still continues to be sweet with the one person in the household who she is with pretty much 24/7 and is trusting most of the time to the other two members of the household who she sees a lot of too, however she STILL does not trust them completely even after all this time so clearly trusting humans is extremely hard for her and possibly could always be.
I think that speaks for itself to what this young dog has been through and it is clear she will always be noise and sound reactive and anyone new will have to earn her trust, kindly, quietly ,and very very slowly ! To be totally honest she still reacts to sudden noises and movements by us, in a flight response way - of which is very fast and wild taking off at full pelt not always looking where she is going !
This all sounds negative and I guess for a lot of people looking for a dog that could be true- but there is a home out there for every dog and we hope one day the right one for her will come . She will let us touch her indoors but not when she's loose outside, this used to be fear, now it's part fear sometimes and a bit of naughtiness now thrown in!
She is still clean in the house and sleeps in her crate overnight ( she never gets crated any other time ) . She needs a playmate of similar size as she plays every day but can be a bit rough not realising her strength, fitness and speed! She is very friendly to dogs and likes cats too. On no account would she be able to live with children as she would be absolutely terrified of the noise and quick movements, that is for definite.
" If Only " ( we call her Lowri ) is a sweet soul but she has had a awful start which up until now she's finding hard to move on from, we have seen similar dogs over the years and they can live a happy life but sometimes its in their own way and pace, and so need a adopter to adopt them for WHO they are - and continue to work with them to move forward if and when they can - and this applies to this dog for sure. If you think you have the experience to help and adopt her then please get in contact by filling out an application.

13-09-19 UPDATE
Beautiful Romanian girl If Only is still here waiting for her forever home.  We call her Lowri in her foster home and although she's been here a while she till runs if frightened, whether its because you appeared suddenly or happened to bend down - she just gets spooked and barks.  She calms down but we thought after a year of being with us she would be less scared now, but now we think she will a!ways get spooked at times if she doesn't understand something - that's just Lowri ! We would like to think she will get less scared, less sensitive, over things/actions but we think whoever adopts her  will HAVE to realise they may have to accept her as she is now.
There is so much to consider if you are applying to adopt Lowri apart from reading her profile in full, you have to realise she will need to be considered in every aspect of your day from how long she can be left,  to realising she's a very highly strung dog needing a very experienced home who has had similar dogs like her before.  It's imperative you have a steady dog or dogs, for her to play with and gain support and confidence from. If you think you are right for this young girl then put in an application after reading her profile in full .

ADOPTION DETAILS
The adoption fee for an adult dog (6 months and over) is £220 and for a puppy is £250, However if the dog has a passport you will be given this when you adopt and we ask for a further £20 to help us buy a passport for another dog.
Large breed dogs over 25kg cost us considerably more  to spay and neuter so if you are adopting a large breed dog we would be very grateful of an extra suggested donation of £10 towards this increased cost to help us keep running.
You will find a break down of what the adoption fee covers under our Adoption Procedures (see link below) If your application is successful you will be home checked and you, all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the dog you want to adopt. All our dogs are micro-chipped, have had at least their first inoculation and are spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so. You must have a safe means of transporting the dog home in a crate or if this is not possible please discuss with Many Tears or the Fosterer when your application is being processed.

Please read our adoption procedures before applying and then complete the adoption form.
