05-03-19 Athina is a very beautiful little Whippet x who is sweetness itself but sadly has a broken heart and problems with her legs.  She went to Langford Vets to have her heart checked and they very kindly had a look at her legs for us too. She suffers from Puppy Laxity Syndrome. Her legs are probably fixable with a really good diet and gentle exercise. Her heart is sadly not fixable. This means no one knows how short or long a life Athina will have. What we are certain of is Athina like all other dogs deserves her own loving home. She ideally needs a quiet house but with a very kind dog or two who will play with her. She is a very kind puppy and has been lovely with the children she's met.

20-03-19 UPDATE
We finally have Athena eating frequent meals. Her energy levels have increased as a result. She's still far too weak to be treated at the hydrotherapy centre but it's a positive sign to say the least!
Foster puppies Becky and Athena playing tug of war this morning.  I'm relieved to see she has the desire to play. Although not great (high impact, very difficult traction surface, elevated pulse rate etc) She is after all, a puppy who needs to play for the purpose of socialisation and mental stimulation. I stopped them shortly after taking the picture to prevent injury to Athena.

01-05-19 UPDATE

Athena has been with us in foster just over a week now. In this time she has come quite a long way already.
She is eating really well (a raw diet) and has put on some weight, she is playing with the other dogs and really trying to join in with them.
She loves chew toys and surrounds herself with them. She sleeps all night, is completely clean in the house and loves having short walks and sniffing and exploring in the grass. Y
es you have to be careful she doesn’t do too much or play too hard but she seem to know her own limits. Athena deserves to be loved and treated like any other dog.... she really is an amazing, strong, beautiful girl.

26-05-19 UPDATE

Athena (we call her Evie) is doing really well in foster. She might have a grade 5 heart murmur and poorly legs but that doesn’t stop her bouncing around the garden and playing with the other dogs. She is such a dear little soul who deserves a family to love her for how she is (which isn’t hard) Athena would like
💖 a very playful doggy companion
💖 a nice garden to bounce around in and to lay in the sun
💖 someone who is home a lot of the time (she can be left for short periods of 2/3hrs)
💖 lots of TLC and cuddles

14-07-19 UPDATE

Athena is progressing really well in foster, she has shot up in size and now weighs 12.1kg. She has the longest legs and is fast too. She just loves to play and would play all day if she could, so a playful canine companion(s) is a must. She comes out for walks everyday for around 30-40 minutes and loves running (in a fashion) and trying to keep up with the others. We took her to the beach for the first time and she loved it (free hydrotherapy to gain muscle on her legs!). She travels well in the van and can be left for periods 2/3 hours if needed but she does love having someone around most of the time. Honestly you wouldn't know this girl has a heart murmur and puppy laxity syndrome, she does not let it stop her living life to the full. She is beautiful on the inside and out.

The adoption fee for an adult dog (6 months and over) is £220 and for a puppy is £250, However if the dog has a passport you will be given this when you adopt and we ask for a further £20 to help us buy a passport for another dog. You will find a break down of what the adoption fee covers under our Adoption Procedures (see link below) If your application is successful you will be home checked and you, all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the dog you want to adopt. All our dogs are micro-chipped, have had at least their first inoculation and are spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so. You must have a safe means of transporting the dog home in a crate or if this is not possible please discuss with Many Tears or the Fosterer when your application is being processed.

Please read our adoption procedures before applying and then complete the adoption form.
