If you are interested in adopting a dog that does not say it can be homed with a cat and wish us to cat test please let us know and we will be happy to do this.

15-08-2019 Whelk is a 5 year old female beagle. She is a very scared girl, although she is fine to handle, and doesn't mind cuddles. She isn't mean in the slightest, despite how scared she is. She will need an experienced home, due to being an ex-breeder and being so afraid and inexperienced in the world. She doesn't walk on the lead, and will need another dog in the home to teach her how to live there with humans and all about house training. She has the potential to blossom!

19-09-19 UPDATE

Whelk is a lovely girl who is starting to come out of her shell. She has a very waggy tail and will come up to you to sniff and give your hands kisses. She's very curious and likes to have a sniff around. She is still nervous and will need a resident dog at home to help her learn and become more confident. She gets on really well with her kennel friends and we've never had an issue with her. She is a really lovely girl who needs a home to call her own and have someone to cuddle.

Whelk really is a sweetheart but is still not too sure about being in kennels. She still comes up to you when she sees you and gives her tail a good wag but is still a bit unsure in having fuss. She really needs a home with a friendly dog to show her the way and help her relax and enjoy her new life.

08-11-19 UPDATE

Whelk has a fantastic personality that makes her perfectly unique. She's a real character and I can't help but smile at her cheeky antics.
Whelk has come a long way since I first met her. She was a scared girl who would not approach strangers at all, would not walk on a lead and wouldn't even take treats from my hand - which is amazing for a Beagle! How the tables have turned!
Whelk is now a confident, loving girl, who loves a fuss and will do anything to give a kiss and a cuddle to her kennel mates and to me. She can still be a little shy of new people, but only out of kennels. When she's in her kennel she will come right to the front with her tail wagging and jump at the bars as if to say 'are you taking me today?'.
Whelk now walks really well on a lead and loves to go out daily to smell all the new smells around the area. She can be a little jumpy with loud noises, such as car doors, and will stop if cars go passed her, but she's getting much better with time. Whelk will also stop when walking passed people, but only in the hope they will stop and say hello to her.
Whelk is the life and soul of her kennel, she is very playful inside and in the play yard. Whelk will do anything to play with a toy, and loves everything from; ropes, footballs, tennis balls and squeaky toys! She's plays beautifully with her kennel mates in the play yard which is nice to see. Whelk can however get a bit rough with her friends in the kennel if a toy is around, so we don't let her take them in from the yard. Although, it doesn't stop her. She will purposely wait for me to open the yard door be grabbing the nearest you and rushing past me. Makes me laugh every time! She's very smart and knows exactly what she's doing. Whelk then allows me to take the toy from her with no issues, all for the process to start again next time.
Whelk is super super loving and really deserves her home now. She's been with us for far too long now through no fault of her own. It's not fair that these Beagles have to stay with us for so long, because they are just as amazing as any other breed we have here. Please be the one to show Whelk what true family love is.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

Although WHELK^ is by donation rather than the full adoption fee, we ask for a minimum donation of £100 to help cover the costs that have been incurred. All our dogs are micro-chipped, have had at least their first inoculation and are spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so. If your application is successful you will be home checked and you, all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the dog you want to adopt. You must have a safe means of transporting the dog home in a crate or if this is not possible please discuss with Many Tears or the Fosterer when your application is being processed.

Please read our adoption procedures before applying and then complete the adoption form.
